The good news is there is no one best spot to stay in Ella, there are many great spots with magnificent views, but here are some things to consider.

• If you enjoy the bustle of being in town, look for hotels close to or in town. In town you have access to plenty of supermarkets, restaurants and bars.

• When traveling with your own car, check if the hotel has free parking available, as many don’t. We have noted which hotels with free parking below.

• Tuk Tuks and cars for hire are everywhere, so even if you arrived by train, getting around town is easy.

Luxury Hotels In Ella Sri Lanka

Many of the luxury hotels in Ella are not within walking distance to town and you will need to organize tuk tuks or a car to get around.

Tuk tuks are plentiful though and often wait nearby to take you wherever you need to go.

Ella Guest Houses

There are plenty of guest houses and homestays to choose from in Ella. Note many are just 1 or 2 rooms tucked away next to the owner’s home.

They can be difficult to find on arrival due to the huge number of tiny streets, so be sure to get good directions on booking.

Also note that many guesthouses and hotels in Ella are further out in the hills surrounding the town.

Some are still within walking distance of town thanks to the shortcut along the railway that runs into the centre of town.

Others may have a steep walk back to your accommodation and you may need to factor in some tuk tuk trips.
